Growing Notes

When pruning out spend heads it’s important to follow the stem of the flower down into its fan of leaves. Remove this entire fan of leaves with the flower. Once the flower blooms the fan will die over time, leaving the clump unsightly if they are not removed.
Some people have a mild to moderate reaction to the leaves of anigozanthos, so before jumping in on a day of pruning you may want to rub a little on the back of your hand to see if it irritates you and wear long sleeves and gloves if necessary.

Special Interest

Anigozanthos evolved an energy and water storing underground rhizome, allowing them to regrow after being burnt to the ground in fires.

Frequently used as a cut flower.
