info
This euphorbia is from arid areas of South Africa and as such likes to go totally bone dry between waterings, making them very low-maintenance. To get good healthy growth your plant doesn’t want to sit around totally dried out during its growing season. Once it is dry, water it.

This plant comes from an area with summer rainfall and is actively growing during that time, when it is forgiving of overwatering errors. During winter dormancy it should be kept extra dry and will be intolerant of overwatering. A gritty mix of half pumice half cactus mix will help the plant survive winter rains, but more frequent watering will be needed in summer months.

Growing Notes

Best grown in deep pots for many years to allow the caudex to enlarge before elevating it.
Grows fairly easy from cutting, but caudex will be forked rather than solitary like a carrot.
Leaf pattering is more dramatic with sun.

Special Interest

Tiny yellow flowers line the leaves in spring.

This euphorbia also makes a good houseplant and transitions easily to a warm sunny room.

More Info

Often confused with Euphorbia squarrosa, which has square leaf cross sections. Euphoria stellata has flat leaves.
