info		 This succulent is from arid areas of Madagascar and as such likes to go almost totally dry between waterings, making it very low-maintenance. It will also tolerate going totally dry, but don’t let it sit around bone dry. Once it approaches dryness or is totally dried out, water it.

This plant comes from an area with summer rainfall and is actively growing during that time, when it is forgiving of overwatering errors.

Dry, shriveled brown lower leaves without new growth is a sign of under watering.

Remember that if kept in a small pot your plant will want more frequent watering.

Growing Notes

Easily roots, even from a single leaf. Cutting the trunk will induce branching and the top can easily be rooted to create a new plant.

Special Interest

In areas with just the right moisture and temperature this plant can make large colonies by just falling over, rooting and replicating. One of our team saw vast colonies in India, but lucky for us this plant isn’t considered aggressive anywhere in California. It’s likely that this growth habit is where the species name ‘prolifera’ comes from.

This plant has been raised to live indoors; however, it can also grow outdoors in mild areas of California. Keep in mind that the plant will go through a stressful transition, especially if moved outside in particularly hot, cold, or wet weather. Even if this plant will eventually thrive in direct sunlight, it has not been grown in this level of light, so if you plant it in direct sun, just expect that the leaves may burn at first, then happily regrow as they acclimate to the new levels of light. Planting in the spring or fall will help with this transition.
