info
Water this plant regularly, when the top inch or so of soil feels dry. If you establish this pattern over several years, then you can cut back to watering every week or two in dry weather. Use drippers, emitters, or a slow stream of water so that it doesn’t run off; allow the water to trickle all the way down through the deepest layers of soil. In a pot slowly water the entire surface until water comes out of the bottom of your pot.

Growing Notes

This grass will die back in winter in harsh climates, but is semi-deciduous in coastal California.
Leave the older dead leaves, cut them back to a foot from the ground in winter, or rake them out in late spring. This plant is always attractive and looks graceful even when unmaintained.
Can reseed in the garden, but is not considered weedy.

Special Interest

Five to six foot tall soft dreamy flower spikes arrive in late fall into winter. They begin purple and then fade to grey.
