Growing Notes

Can self-attach by aerial roots, especially where the atmosphere is moist, but often it is best to train the cactus up a trellis or string to direct its path. Prune lightly in spring to open up the form if needed. Can look tangled over time.
Appreciates a hot spot, but be careful growing on a blasting south-facing wall, where full sun could be a bit much for this tree-growing cactus.
To control its exposure to rain and cold, try growing this vining plant in a container and pruning after bloom to manage its form.

Special Interest

The ephemeral evening bloom of this beautiful, fragrant flower is an occasion worth celebrating.

More Info

This cactus climbs up trees in seasonally dry tropical woodlands, which are often deciduous in winter-spring. This habitat has a winter dry season with increasing sun exposure until heavier rains begin in early summer and canopy trees flush with foliage, shading this plant and the understory.
