info
This mesemb is from arid areas of the Upper Karoo and as such likes to go totally bone dry between waterings, making it very low-maintenance. To get good healthy growth your plant doesn’t want to sit around totally dried out during its growing season. Once it is dry, water it.

This plant comes from an area with winter rainfall and is actively growing during that time, when it is forgiving of overwatering errors. During summer dormancy it should be kept extra dry and won’t tolerate overwatering.

Remember that if kept in a small pot your plant will want more frequent watering.

Growing Notes

Very slow growing. Pretty much no work at all - though you can clean off the old flower heads if you would like. Looks good staged in nice pottery with some rocks and topdressing.
This plant is almost never planted in the ground, though it can be grown in a well maintained rockery. Weeds will quickly overcome it.

Special Interest

The unique look of this plant shows how well adapted to it’s environment it is, with the pebbled leaves perfectly blending into the limestone sand where it grows. See the linked photo below!
